Like any other industry, kitchens have their fashions – in recent years there has been a shift from traditional detailing towards a more modern, clean look.

In fact, the latest most popular look is painted slab doors, which are available in many colour options and can offer a very simple, clean look in both gloss and matt finishes. A recent trend is to combine several colours in a single kitchen design.

White and ivory are the most popular colours but increasingly designers are using a variety of earth tone and grey palettes.

Grainy woods have also been a recent trend and structured synchronised laminates which are man-made but give the appearance of real wood are rising in sales along with a variety of traditional oak stained finishes!

Simple stainless steel handles enhance the effect and make a compact kitchen look larger, and there are even drawers available now that open with a simple push, so handles are no longer needed! In addition, completely handleless style kitchens that incorporate a stylish grip rail are gaining ground.

Solid surface composites and granite have also become much more popular as a worktop material and an increasing number of kitchens are utilising laminate worktops with pp. edging and panels that match the finish on the doors.

If you’re thinking of buying a new kitchen, make sure it’s one which will be a real showstopper – try to get an idea of what you like before you visit your kitchen retailer by looking for inspiration in magazines or on the web.
