If your plans for a fabulous new kitchen or beautiful new bathroom went awry with the collapse of high street names such as Moben and Dolphin, before you call in someone to pick up the pieces, make sure that they are a member of a recognised trade association, advises the Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association (KBSA).

Many cash deposits have been lost and some people are ending up with an installation they had not planned let alone ordered.  Help appears to be at hand with plenty of offers on the web promising to complete orders if people have lost their deposit for no extra cost.  But beware; check first that those offering to do this have a good reputation themselves and exactly what the deal includes.

Look for association membership and /or a deposit protection scheme. KBSA members for example offer a comprehensive ConsumerCare Plus Scheme which covers the deposit, advance payment, work-in- progress and a 6 year warranty.

All KBSA members are carefully vetted before they join us and must have been trading for at least two years in order to be considered.  Once they become members, they follow an Approved Code of Practice and are subject to strict monitoring to ensure continued professional service.

The high street will remain volatile for some time to come so there has never been a more important time to check the reputation and credibility of a retailer.

All KBSA members are listed on the KBSA website, www.kbsa.org.uk, and a postcode search will locate the nearest retailers.
