For the worktops and door facade I have used a Dekton as the thickness of the material is suitable for the door facade to create the look of the worktop running through and Dekton is made with recycled materials from the products own manufacturing process. I have opted for a self-venting Induction Hob on the island to face the client towards the garden while cooking, this is also safer choice with grandchildren in mind. I have used a Quooker with boiling water feature which will save electricity on the kettle. I have placed the wine fridge in its own separate unit situated next to the reading area.

In this design I have created 4 different zones to fit the lifestyle and needs of the client. Cooking zone, 2 seating zones, reading zone and drinks zone. In the cooking zone I have placed the main appliances from the clients wish list, fridge freezer, Oven, Combination oven and warming drawer. The hob is situated on the island with the sink and dishwasher against the wall keeping the mess away from the island. The island is a zone for cooking, eating and entertaining. I have designed 2 seating zones giving the client a choice to sit on stools or around the table when the family are gathered. I have a large family and have noticed the young children will gravitate towards the breakfast stool seating, so I have added 4 stools to accommodate for all four grandchildren facing the TV. I have designed the dining table to have the capability to pull out further to accommodate for 2 extra guests, The extra part of the table is hidden within the island and the leg of the dining table is on wheels to make sure the system works with ease. The two soft seating chairs can be used as the extra dining chairs.

As a reading zone was important to the client I have designed soft seating facing out to the garden to take advantage of the views. To utilize the angled wall I have designed a drinks preparation area with wine chiller and wine storage, when the clients are entertaining guests and preparing a drink they do not need to enter the cooking zone.

I have design 2 micro herb gardens, one on the island and one on the dining table. This is both a great feature and allows the client to grow and maintain their own herbs, this is also a fun activity they do with their grandchildren to teach them about sustainability.

In addition to the functionality to the kitchen I have used plywood to clad the walls which is a more permanent feature than wallpaper or paint for longevity. To create continuity through the whole space I designed a floating fireplace made from the same heat resistant dekton, this will have a glass front as a safety feature. To maximize storage I have added clever hidden storage in the paneling on the tv wall.

I feel I have git the brief with this and created a space that both the client can enjoy with all the family together or while entertaining guests.
