To suit this modern apartment setting and the minimalist aesthetic required, a gloss finish was recommended by the designer. A gloss finish had the additional benefit of reflecting light around the room in this seaside apartment.

A two-tone finish was favoured from early project conversations, with an Alpine White finish used for the lengthy island space and a Slate Grey finish used for the main run of units. Both these finishes teamed well with a Corian surface which added a great texture to the project.

To add further modern elements, pendant lighting, LED strip lighting and underlit shelving options have been utilised, with the latter a particularly nice design feature.

The layout was a little challenging for the designer, with a lot of elements to combine, whilst also achieving a minimalist theme. The client desired a cohesive design with subtle division between the kitchen area and living room area, and the long design of the island achieves this perfectly. The 3.9 metre island is a division between the two areas, whilst including useful storage for this client’s items and casual island seating.

The main run of furniture includes full-height units at one end to incorporate built-in appliances at a functional height and storage, whilst a run of base units teamed with feature shelving adds a minimalist design element which the client loved.

Returning to the island space, two of the high-tech appliances feature in this space a Quooker boiling tap and a BORA Pure venting hob. These both add useful functionality to the kitchen, and also contribute to the modern style through their futuristic design. Throughout this room and into the hallway, Karndean flooring has also been laid, complete with underfloor heating.

This kitchen and living area rethink achieved all the elements of this client’s brief.

A minimalist theme captures the aesthetic of this property while orange accents add a pop of colour. The layout divides the space and yet combines the two rooms at the same time, thanks to a clever design.

Finishing touches like high-tech appliances, lighting options and a flooring improvement client’s own style to the space.
