Design Rationale

The brief states that the design is for a couple who have recently moved to a larger house to accommodate their family.

After taking into consideration a variety of room permutations, I felt that the space would benefit considerably from some structural work being undertaken. I have lowered the ceiling and created boxes creating focal points above the island and living room, this keeping an uninterrupted eyeline along the room. There is a large social living area perfectly suited for inclusive entertaining.

I chose Contino handleless by Leicht because of its sleek and minimalistic look, durability, and ease of use. The ease of access to and movement of doors is a key element to the kitchen for having young children. The door finish is shown in a lacquered silk matt.

The mixture of Gris Moyen and Arctic creates a striking contrast within the kitchen. I have mixed these two colours with a veneer- Antique Oak Abruzzo, which introduces a warmth and helps to soften the transition from Kitchen into Living space.

For the worktop, I have used Silestone colour Eternal Calacatta Gold because of its durability and ease of cleaning. The island worktop area gives substantial working space, while retaining an ergonomic distance from the sink. Siemens is the manufacture of all appliances. I chose these because of their flexibility for all cooking abilities. As Mr and Mrs Gilbert enjoy cooking and entertaining. The Single oven is multifunctional with Microwave, oven, grill and pulse steam. The compact steam is great for keeping all nutrient in the food. Also included is a Siemens larder fridge, freezer, extractor, warming drawer, induction hob and dishwasher. There is also a Quooker Flex included in the kitchen that benefits from the additional pull out spray. This has been upgraded in matt black.
