CDUK announces Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for PaperStone® 30
Mar '23

PaperStone® is a paper composite surface material that is hard as stone yet made from paper.

Surface material supplier CDUK introduced this innovative material to the UK & Ireland markets in 2021, as part of their commitment to helping designers and architects create sustainable and long-lasting designs.

This composite panel is made from recycled paper, natural pigments and a resin that is petroleum-free and non-toxic (PetroFree™). The recycled paper and cardboard, which is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) approved, is stacked into layers where it is then saturated with the natural pigments to create the design. The petroleum-free resin is applied and pressed under heat and pressure into a solid sheet.

There are 11 colours to choose from across two ranges, providing retailers and consumers with warm, rich and natural tones to complement their interiors. Some of the colour choices include charcoal, graphite, gunmetal, pewter, sand and slate.

Along with being Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certified, the PaperStone® range is also FSC® approved, as well as National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) certified. By collecting a prestigious range of certificates, CDUK wants to demonstrate the commitment to an eco-friendly lifestyle that is elegant and responsible. It shows that they are considerate when it comes to managing environmental impact in the hope that other suppliers and manufacturers will join them to do the same.

Designers and architects will benefit from working with CDUK and its innovative, green-certified products, as it will support them to get their projects recognised by sustainability building schemes. As a trusted design partner, CDUK does also offer designer training courses to help them understand PaperStone®, its unique benefits, and how to apply it to projects to unlock its full design potential.

CDUK also deserves kudos for being the exclusive UK & Ireland supplier of a product that is made from recycled materials, and that is also recyclable at the end of its life cycle, the surface can be re-purposed for future projects.

PaperStone® has many applications, from bars and table tops to kitchen worksurfaces to bathrooms. PaperStone® is easy to fabricate and install, strong and versatile. The surface is heat- and stain-resistant, desirable qualities that many look for in a surface material.

PaperStone® has been recognised in industry awards by Mixology Awards and Designer Awards. It was named Product of the Year: Surfaces and Finishes at the SBID International Awards and has been applauded as a new generation of sustainable surface material. The judging panel criteria assessed technical content, aesthetic creativity, and fit-for-purpose design and functionality.

Vicki Richmond, Marketing Director of CDUK, said:

“A key focus for CDUK is to provide the architecture and design community with all the necessary tools to create outstanding designs that are built to last and to be kind to both our planet and human wellbeing. PaperStone® perfectly encapsulates aesthetics, functionality and sustainability and achieving an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certificate is a testament to the first-class credentials of the new generation material”.

PaperStone® is a versatile product that is sustainable as well as attractive. For Kbsa members looking to increase their range of green products, it is worth considering what CDUK can bring to your showroom and your customers.
