The Colliers are a very family-oriented couple who, like many, are now in a position where the children have grown up and flown the nest, so the brief was to create a space with no compromise made bespoke for them. They asked for a master suite with a luxury hotel feel, with wardrobe storage, a dressing table and a seating area.
Originally, the space was split into 2 bedrooms, a boiler cupboard, an en-suite and a hallway with a second staircase from the ground floor. We decided to lose the staircase and knock all the rooms into 1 master bedroom suite with a large en-suite. This gave the client a much more spacious feel as they did not need the second bedroom any more.
The client has beautiful views across the back of the house, which I wanted to make the best of, so I positioned a headboard in the middle of the room with the bed facing towards the views to maximise them. The front of the headboard features fabric pads for a 6ft bed and 2 floating bedside drawers with fabric pads and wall lights above, the back of the headboard has been designed with integrated LED light shelving for bags and shoes, creating a corridor dressing area where I also niched some bespoke drawers for maximum storage. These are finished in a dark-stained veneer with brass metal inlay details.
This corridor leads you to the bespoke-made wardrobes that are built into the angles of the ceiling. These wardrobes include all the storage requirements of the client, each wardrobe has custom layouts with hanging storage, drawers and areas for ties, belts and watches. No storage is wasted with all of the angles being utilised. To avoid awkward handle details, we opted for a handleless door with a feature bronze mirror detail, which complements the brass inlay and dark-stained veneer.
Outside the en-suite, I created the client's dressing area. This includes a floating dressing table with drawer storage and a wall-mounted tall mirror with hooks for hangers and dressing gowns, and a double socket for the client's hairdryer.
This layout leads the client seamlessly through the room, allowing them to wake up and get ready as efficiently as possible. From leaving the bed the client is close to the wardrobes where they can pick their outfit for the day, they are then lead through the shoe and bag storage corridor where they can select their shoes, bag and underwear from the drawers, the hooks on the mirror outside the en-suite gives the client an area to store their clothes while they shower, once showered and changed the client can use the dressing table for hair and make up before leaving for the day. All the furniture in this room is bespoke-made with dark-stained veneer, bronze mirror and brass inlays.
