These clients walked into my studio having only heard of me through a chance meeting with another KBSA dealer whilst on holiday, who said in your area you must go to……. I felt so very proud and worked so hard to help this young family to achieve the very best of their space with their limited budget.

Their architect had given them all they asked for a single storey extension on the back of their house. No imagination or improvement by him just exactly that, it was such a shame as there was a door to a music studio in the middle of the wall they wanted their TV and no access to the remainder of the garage other than from outside, it simply made no sense. This young couple just thought architects know best and kitchen shops put cupboards in a room!!!! So here we go on our journey to educate and show how simple changes can totally change their lives.

I convinced them to add a door in their Utility room to the garage (which is already split into a storage space and a Study/sound studio) Change the garage door to a normal door in a panel, so it looks like a lift up garage door but is in fact a normal side door and add a door from this now boot room to the Studio, closing off the study to kitchen door. They had a light bulb moment when I explained that the musicians coming to use the studio would not have to come through the house, the children can come in messy to a boot room removing the mountains of coats and shoes from the front hallway. The noise of the studio was further away making it more sound proof and family friendly. Even taking rubbish out to the bins was easier as no need to keep going out the front door.

They paid a deposit and I liaised with their architect and the builder to ensure everyone understood so we could bring the new scheme to fruition. The kitchen design was actually for us straightforward once all other areas had been corrected, we helped them design the fit out of the Utility room using the existing kitchen and added glass blocks in the existing window to gain some natural light. We also fully clad the walls with Flutto natural oak to make a real wow factor and worked closely with the builder to make the window positions work to the slat sizes (a huge challenge especially given the flutes are on all window heads and mitre in). They wanted to be able to showcase all their gold discs, have a dresser for the record player, a glossy wow factor floor and a large TV with a cosy sofa for them to snuggle together.

They have two young girls and a tiny elderly dog, the sofa converts to a full legs up sofa and they now rarely us their front room. I thoroughly enjoyed helping this young couple get the very best from their home and investment, and feel super proud they came as a recommend from another KBSA member.
