When we sat down at the initial design meeting with our client, they outlined their vision: "I want the en-suite to feel dark and luxurious yet still spa-like".

After creating the initial design concepts, I invited the client back for a discussion about the ideas. The primary focus was on concealing the cistern and the recessed illuminated mirror. Instead of building a complete false wall, I designed pillars with LED lighting behind them to further highlight the tiles.

I initially chose dark, warm, earthy tones for the tiles, complemented by a deep dark blue/black tile for contrast on the pillars. I realised that a standard white ceiling wouldn’t work for this room, so I selected a warm stone colour from the tiles. With mood lighting now a popular choice in bathroom design and having these vertical lights behind the pillars, I decided to go beyond basic downlights and create a continuous line down the centre of the room using a flush-fitting LED light.

I selected Crosswater's slate brassware range to complement the tiles in the room. Additionally, I chose a black vanity and glass basin from their collection. To enhance the overall aesthetic, I also opted for a black toilet and installed a smoked glass shower screen, which adds depth and sophistication to the space.

The client loved the renders and the walk-through and couldn't wait to get started and to see the end result.

The tile texture adds visual interest and warmth; when wet, the floor tiles in the wet room resemble a riverbed, enhancing the overall natural spa-like feel of the room whilst showering. The warm, soft lighting helps create a relaxing and inviting atmosphere.

The client loves her unique and personalised space and told us that it exceeded her expectations.
