Set within the grounds of a newly built luxury home, built by a high-end property developer partner, we were asked to create a space to form the serene heart of the family home.

Located on a peaceful road, the house overlooks a mature garden with a large oak tree, offering calming views through expansive glazing. The property was designed for a young family of four seeking a tranquil sanctuary to return to at the end of a busy day.

The space was to be a place for the family to gather, reconnect, and unwind with the natural landscape views from the kitchen.

Working closely with the developer and the clients, the brief was to design an open, light-filled kitchen that connected seamlessly with the garden beyond. It needed to feel calm, restorative, and softly luxurious—a modern space with tactile materials and gentle warmth.

The family desired a layout that offered open-plan living, ample storage, and zones for morning rituals and evening downtime alike. A particular emphasis was placed on integrating nature-inspired finishes and creating moments of joy in everyday routines, such as breakfast time or an afternoon coffee.

Technical Design and Ergonomics
Central to the design is a large kitchen island with seating for six—ideal for casual dining, children’s homework sessions, and relaxed entertaining. A Quooker tap provides instant boiling water, while the BORA hob with integrated downdraft extraction ensures a clean, minimalist feel, free from overhead intrusion.

Siemens appliances are discreetly integrated for ease of use and streamlined aesthetics. The kitchen’s layout encourages flow and interaction, offering clear sightlines across the space and into the garden beyond.

Materials and Technology
Nature was the key inspiration for the material palette. We used Rotpunkt’s Bardolia Oak doors to introduce a soft woodgrain texture that echoes the mature trees just beyond the glazing. The tone of the oak lends the room a gentle focus, helping the space feel both grounded and expansive.

Two contrasting Dekton worktops were selected for their hard-wearing, carbon-neutral properties. Their stone-like appearance and natural tonal variation bring quiet drama and layered texture, avoiding the uniformity of a single material while remaining cohesive.

Bespoke Elements and Original Features
We designed a bespoke breakfast and coffee pantry—tucked away yet easily accessible—allowing the family to start their day with intention and ease. This dedicated zone can store everything from cereals to coffee beans, bringing function and joy to a busy family routine.

Open shelving was incorporated to display the family’s most cherished books, objects, and keepsakes. With under-shelf lighting casting a warm glow, these personal items are elevated into design features, enhancing the emotional resonance of the space.

Wow-Factor
The “wow” in this project is its quiet confidence—an understated, luxurious space that soothes the senses while offering thoughtful functionality. Every element, from the organic material palette to the light-drenched layout, invites connection—between family members, between indoors and out, and between daily function and peaceful retreat.

This is a kitchen that doesn’t shout. Instead, it whispers calm, offers comfort, and connects deeply with the family it was designed for. A true reflection of home, shaped by nature.
