The kitchen design within this redevelopment of a former forge would be sympathetic to its surroundings however be sharp contrast to the modern, minimal, contemporary interior with luxurious colour palette.

The idea when space planning was to create a design which would combine all aspects of modern living within the kitchen living area. Prep, cook, eat, drink and relax. I have created a space which flows and have include an island which doesn’t feel jarring but exists within the space as if it has always been there. The space is centred around the old forge which is the centre piece of the home.

DRINK. The kitchen comprises of a large handless island, sink run with tall units, booth seat to the rear of the island and a separate drinks area. It is important that the kitchen accommodates two people using the space for different tasks at the same time. I have introduced a separate drinks area where task such as making coffees and tea can be prepared away from the main food prep area. It is also close to the living/dining area, making the journey for a quick drink more convenient.

PREP. The island would be the main spot for food preparation. With many drawers for ease of access to jars and spices, kitchen equipment, crockery. The fridge close by on the sink run and a double sink and dishwasher behind you for the dirty items as you work. It's 3.6 metres long and 1.2 metres deep island which provides so much space to spread out and prepare. Worktops here are 20mm Caesar Stone Frozen Terra. I like that terrazzo look is coming back. Strong, durable, scratch resistant worktops are ideal for a prep area. I selected muted pebble grey matt laminate to complement the existing flint material.

COOK. The exceptional features of the pitched roof are those that we must embrace. However, it can make extraction in seem tricky. I specified a Bora Puxu induction hob with integrated extractor which draws in dirty air and expel out clean area via a charcoal filter and out through a gap above the plinth. The home would be free of lingering cooking smells.

I specified Miele for both the single with microwave and a steam oven. This brand’s longevity and latest technology can’t be matched. Miele appliances link up to their own app which have many brilliant functions and benefits for the user to suit the modern world.

This run of units are a striking combination of black matt laminate with Dekton worktop and clad wall, the focal point of the kitchen. To the end of the run, I have added additional storage with a beautiful champagne aluminium door front.

RELAX. I incorporated a built-in booth to the rear of the island as additional seating to the main dinning area. With the kitchen being the heart of the home, it suits not only for entertaining but morning breakfast and work from home. The space remains open however with the addition of a little open shelving creates intimate/cosy feel.

I think the kitchen layout works extremely well within the space and meets the developer’s requirements. Wither it’s a couple or family, who are lucky to move into the property, I have no doubt they will be very happy here for year to come.
