Mr & Mrs Kinniburgh came to Ekco to have their Kitchen re-designed. The room needed to fulfil all their needs and look good at the same time as it was a room they used every day. The brief was to

Listening to the client’s requirements I came up with a design that incorporated all their needs. The client had recently moved to their new home from Shetland to be closer to their family as they have grandchildren.

The kitchen was to be traditional but in with the times, this mix of aesthetics ensures the space is timeless, ensuring the longevity of the design.

The customers wanted the design of the kitchen to compliment their family centric lifestyle. They wanted to have a central focal point of the kitchen which would act as a hub for family meals and events.

The clients are also self-providing as their property features a large vegetable garden and a meadow. They needed large areas of storage in the kitchen in order to accommodate all the produce that they harvest on their property.

They were also looking for High quality integrated appliances in their design. Including, a dishwasher, combi ovens, Raised washer/dryers and a free-standing fridge/freezer.

The clients didn’t want the kitchen to be too looming and instead have opted for neutral colours with dark accents to create a dramatic accent while still being able to change the overall aesthetic of the room by changing furniture components.

They were specific about the placement of the hob itself, as the clients cook meals for their family frequently, they wanted the hob to be located at the window overlooking their garden.

The design fulfilled all these requirements by having a large family centric kitchen that “wraps” around the room creating a comforting aura. Light greys are used alongside dark worktops to create that contrast between neutral and moody tones. A hanging shelf was installed right in the middle of the space to provide a clever storage space for cutlery and plants. This shelf also acts as a focal point in the room hanging above the large table that the client has put in the room.
