A kitchen created from the fires of its Forge: The typical approach for a listed conversion would be a traditional kitchen. However, I felt that there was opportunity to integrate an ultra-modern design, creating a striking contrast whilst still paying homage to the history of the building utilising clever materials.

An old forge instantly draws your mind to the history, old architecture and design details. I drew inspiration from old anvils, iron wear and features synonymous with the trade of black smiths.

To highlight the Old Forge within a redeveloped modern building, I have kept to an Industrial style with exposed brickwork, Crittall windows and black steel pipework combined with distressed wood and concrete finishes throughout.

As the building is a former Forge and has many architectural details such as the different height ceilings and oak beams I decided to keep the cabinetry simple and limit the amount of units used so that the room was not flooded with cupboards.
