The couple wanted to create 3 zoned areas; kitchen, dining + living, whilst still providing an open plan continuous feel. To begin the design, various walls were removed which left an exposed beam in the centre of the room. We created a feature around the beam which also helped to create the zones the clients wanted.
The kitchen is in the main area of the space so as you enter the room, your welcomed by the main family space. I created a break-front design with the ovens which coincided with the setback bifold bar located at the end of the run. As the wall was over 6m long, I felt this layout helped to break up the run of units whilst creating interest, playing around with various depths and widths.
Whilst the bar is located at the rear end of the kitchen, we positioned 2 integrated wine coolers on the island next to the seating so they can be easily accessed from all areas of the room; this helps to create a social atmosphere.
The island has curved corners and the front was left with no handles to form a calm and soothing feeling. Both sink and tap were purposely not positioned on the island so it could become more of a prepping and socialising island, so these items were moved to the back wall. The contrasting colours of light grey + Viridian (green) were chosen to complement each other and enhance the calming and soothing theme for the room.
Our clients are enjoying their kitchen since completion and said:
“The new room is everything we wanted it to be, luxurious and spacious but warm and welcoming.
“We are delighted and would not change a thing”.
