Kitchen Design Brief

Mr & Mrs Spaulding live in a modern town house with their 2 teenagers and pet Labrador. They are a social family and enjoy having friends and neighbours over for dinner and drinks. They have lived in their home for almost 15 years and wanted to make some improvements to their space and the way they use it.

After much thought it was decided that knocking through their existing kitchen into the larger dining room would give them more space and a much more desirable area to entertain. By removing the divide between the kitchen and dining room they were able to create an open plan kitchen with a large island and separate dining table. Mr & Mrs Spaulding are keen gardeners and therefore during the building works it was decided that bifold doors would give them more light and a much better view of their beautiful garden. The customer required a full design & install service and found it beneficial to be able to visualise their design with CAD visuals.

The overall look and feel of the kitchen was very important to the couple. Their house is modern and it was decided that the kitchen would be contemporary. They wanted a stylish look without being too sterile or cold. They opted for a sleek gloss kitchen without handles in a soft Kashmir colour. Mrs Spaulding’s favourite colour is purple, which has been incorporated into the design as an accent. They opted for a sparkly Quartz worktop to reflect the light and add a glamorous touch.

Due to the fact the couple wanted a social space the hob was designed on the island. To eliminate need for extraction above the island, which would spoil the view, the BORA hob was chosen. Mr Spaulding loves a gadget and was particularly pleased with his BORA hob. He enjoys cooking at the island and was impressed by how efficient the BORA extracts.

In order to keep the kitchen looking as glamorous as possible we used plasterboard to create an alcove for their tea and coffee area, keeping clutter away from their show stopping island. Bins were hidden away into a cupboard and pull out larders were incorporated to maximise storage. All appliances where integrated to keep the design clean and the sink was mounted under the Quartz with draining grooves polished into the worktop. The wine cooler was built in at eye level for guests to help themselves to a glass of wine. Soft close drawers were designed in for ease of use and open shelves incorporated for display purposes.

Overall the design has given them a social space with the glamorous touch they desired, all perfectly finished with a beautiful crystal pendant over the dining table.

The budget for this project was £32,000.00
