The client required a space that caters for cooking and entertaining for multiple people and be used as their main family space. My concept was to situate the dining area by the bi-folding doors, for entertaining guests.
Having the dining area here creates a space that can easily take advantage of the benefits of the bi-folding doors, namely, to blur
the line between interior and exterior of the spaces, creating an open plan feeling. Moving the waste to the back of the room maximised the remaining space to create a large statement island facing the garden, allowing anyone preparing food and cooking to socialise effortlessly.
The breakfast bar features to soften the transition between the kitchen and living spaces.
My final design feature was to place the living area in the extension, creating a bright and open area that is still connected to the kitchen and dining elements.
By facing into the heart of the room, everyone can relax and socialise together in the same space, even when engaged in different activities.
The clients wanted an easy-to-clean space with a classic-contemporary style, I have chosen the Pronom Proline range.
The smooth, sleek Proline door is easy to maintain and has a contemporary feel. I have balanced this with a more classical look by using more traditional materials such as a Caple brass tap and brass door handles.
Accentuating my design further I used Silestone’s Calcatta Gold Worktops to give a high-quality, easy to maintain finish that is both durable and easy to clean.
Adding to the subtle classical style is the use of gable ends in stone as well as a large Belfast style sink.
Punctuating these features with touches of Pronorm’s antique wood finish allows me to create a warm atmosphere while still being practical and easy to maintain.
Using the stunning Siemens IQ700 appliance range. A large fridge & freezer, steam-oven, combination-oven, warming drawer, full-flex induction hob, ceiling extractor, integrated dishwasher and larder wine cooler, createan entertainer’s dream. Entertaining was a key detail to consider, the combination oven gives extra space when cooking and can also be used as a microwave for day-to-day life, without needing a separate appliance. The warming drawer below helps articulate the lines of the design, keeping the ovens on the same level, as well as being a very handy feature when cooking for guests. I chose the Siemens full flex induction hob as it is perfect for putting large dishes on to cook for guests. The stylish white ceiling extractor above is discreet and the boxing above creates a frame for the island and highlights it as a key feature. Choosing Siemens IQ700 appliances are known for having multiple pre-set functions to help with cooking, a great feature to use when entertaining.
Overall, the space seamlessly blends together the clients needs without becoming complicated or disconnected. All areas blend together but can still be used individually. A multi-purpose space that carefully marries form and function without becoming disjointed or cluttered.
