These clients are known for their bold use of colour and eclectic interior style. Their home is a celebration of personality, layered with objects collected from friends, family, and travels, each piece telling a story. With that in mind, the dressing room needed to be both functional and full of character, striking a careful balance between practical storage and open, display-ready areas.
The space itself is located at the top of the house, which presents the challenge of working within the eaves. To make the most of the angled ceilings, we designed bespoke cabinetry that follows the pitch of the roofline while still offering generous internal capacity. Each unit was carefully planned to maximise hanging, shelf, and drawer space without compromising the room’s visual appeal or accessibility.
Storage was a key part of the brief, but the clients were equally focused on having space to display personal treasures. To meet this need, we incorporated open display shelving in multiple areas. A key feature is the peninsula unit, which includes drawers on one side for functional storage, while the rear is fitted with open shelves, which are ideal for showcasing books, accessories, or decorative objects. The worktop surface was matched to the door fronts to maintain a cohesive finish.
The eaves were carefully worked around to ensure no space was wasted, but it was below the windows where we introduced a subtle yet effective design detail. Asymmetrical open shelving was built into the wall beneath the windows, providing both practical storage and a visual focal point. The deep windowsills above these shelves offer an ideal spot to style decorative objects or display special finds and allowing the clients to layer their personality into the room in a way that feels natural and unobtrusive.
A standout request was for a custom shoe storage solution. To address this, we designed a bespoke shoe cabinet with tinted glass doors and integrated lighting. When illuminated, the shoes are attractively displayed, almost like a retail-style gallery. When the lights are off, the tinted glass conceals the contents entirely, creating a clean, uncluttered look.
Lighting was an essential part of the brief, not just for functionality, but to enhance the mood and styling opportunities in the room. We introduced integrated lighting within the display areas and along key joinery lines to bring warmth, visibility, and flexibility to the space.
