Kitchen Concept Designer of the Year 2024 Winner

David Allen

To meet the clients brief I have created a kitchen and living space that has both practicality and beautiful modern design inspired by nature.
2024 Shortlist Kitchen Concept Berry2

Following the brief I have created a pesto preparation area which can be hidden behind a 4 door bi-fold pocket door system so that when the space is not being used it can be closed away to create a beautiful seamless look while entertaining. In this area I have included an LG tiiun fridge which is designed for the client to grow her own pesto, I have also added a Bora Qvac which can be used to seal the pesto jars after preparation. This area also includes a separate sink with quooker tap, storage and jar rack. I have finished this space with a black timber frame door with Dekton worktop which has antibacterial properties which is perfect for food preparation.

Next to the 4 door pocket unit I have hidden all the appliances behind a single pocket door unit, again maintaining the modern seamless look but keeping all the practicality of a working kitchen, in this oven housing I have included a Miele steam oven, single oven and large warming drawer.

On the sink run I have added a dishwasher, pull out recycling bins and a stone shelf above with timber panels above, this creates a beautiful display area.

To integrate the stainless steel Fridge freezer with ice maker into the design i have a created a curved wall with ribbed timber panels and hidden storage which creates a housing for the appliance and extra practical storage for the clients.

On the island I have followed the brief and added dining table, this design reflects a pebble being shaped by the water, in nature we see many curved and soft shapes which are shaped by water and wind, I have integrated these soft and curved shapes across the design which gives the look a real connection to the outside world. This island also houses the induction hob with extractor which is fitted into a plastered housing that reflects the natural shapes of the space. Above the island I have created a living lighting canopy with an irrigated planter system which allows the client to grow herbs and plants.

To create an open yet zoned space I have created a room divided into the chilling zone, this has a bar area one side for preparing and serving drinks while entertaining and a TV unit the other side which allows the sofa to sit on the back will with space for 2 coffee tables. In this area I have created a chill zone booth seating area that is built within a shelving and bookcase area.

In addition to this I have added an armchair with side table and pendant light to create a separate chill zone situated next to the dining area.

For the materials I have a selected an on trend light washed oak door with stone island, these natural materials give the space a calm and natural feeling, really making it seamlessly flow to the outdoor space. The paneling I have used has a ribbed effect which reflects the curved pebble design seen in nature.
