He also wanted a gas hob as he is passion about cooking and wanted a robust hob that gave him total control and did not need to worry about cracking or scratching a glass hob. They had just had their first child and needed a kitchen with space for a child and a dog. Bar stools and area for table and chairs essential. I had installed his parents’ kitchen several years ago and he loved a detail I used where the ovens where floating and semi recessed in the wall. My biggest challenge was the budget as they really wanted to keep under £25K, they wanted three ovens and had already bought a Neff Microwave.

He fell in love with a display in our studio that was a full metal frame powder coated and then said I have a friend who owes me a favour and works in metal. This was the moment I thought I have a chance of hitting his budget! So I designed the kitchen to incorporate a lot of powder coated metal all of which he got free of charge! You will see the feature island is all metal, so is the hob wall and the oven surround. We like working with metal as there are so many magnetic accessories available so they will be adding herb troughs and knife blocks etc. as their needs change as their family grows. It is amazing how spending time chatting allowed us to produce a design feature that creates a very individual look that is functioning, and his friend now also has a new opportunity in designing in home metal work.

I hope you like the design and can see a simple L shaped kitchen with a small island can look wow and work so very well. We used the Elica gas venting hob an appliance we have used once before and proved to be a great appliance. Neff Appliances and laminate worktops (inlaid into metal frame on island) The metal island although designed by us to have a feature bookshelf (turns out to be champagne shelf!) and trough for oils and chopping boards, floating ovens as was high on his wish list all helping to create an open spacious kitchen with his sought-after industrial feel too. We hit his budget, the look and all the dream of styling too. This young couple with their new child have finally moved in and enjoying their kitchen, sorry I only have my snap shots as Covid has made access for professional shots a challenge.
