Dec '18

Our expert kitchen retailers share their top tips for those hoping to get their dream kitchen in 2019.

Start the year with these resolutions, and you will have a renovation to be proud of in no time at all.

Modern Homes – “Do your homework”

Modern Homes have been designing and installing high-quality kitchens and bathrooms for over 50 years, so it’s safe to say they know what they’re talking about! The expert retailers believe preparation is the absolute key to an enjoyable and seamless design and installation.

“Do some homework on your existing kitchen before beginning the design process for the new one,” says the Leamington Spa-based retailer. “The important information comes from working out what does and doesn’t work in your existing room.

How early should you be doing this, you ask? Modern Homes say now is the perfect time to assess your current kitchen: “A good time to do this is during the Christmas break, as this is usually the longest time you’ll spend at home as a family. It’s also when your kitchen is at its busiest!”

If you have your heart set on a new kitchen in 2019, start preparing now!

“It’s important to involve your kitchen designer as early in the project as possible, and not in the last minute,” says Director Keith Myers. “We at The Myers Touch ideally need six months before a planned installation date to ensure all of your boxes are ticked and your expectations exceeded.”

Our expert retailers boast a variety of exceptional designers. If you make the wise decision to opt for a Kbsa member for your new kitchen renovation, make sure you make full use of their expertise by getting them involved as early as possible in your project!

Ashford Kitchens and Interiors

For their New Year’s Resolution for home renovators, Ashford Kitchens and Interiors ask: “What’s the best way to ask what you want for Christmas?” By making a list of course! Designing a new kitchen requires exactly the same.

Ashford Kitchens and Interiors have been Kbsa members since 1992 and have showrooms in Middlesex and Farnham Common. If you’re considering redesigning your kitchen in 2019, they recommend making a list that answers the following common questions they get from customers.

  1. How can I create a kitchen space in which all my friends and family can congregate?
  2. I need durable surfaces, what are my options?
  3. Should I go contemporary or traditional? Or a combination of both?

“If you are renovating your kitchen next year, the most important thing is to make the changes that are going to improve your life,” said Ashford Kitchens and Interiors. “Making a wish list is like writing a goal; it makes it so much easier to prioritise what is important. A list will help you make the necessary pivotal decisions to designing your dream kitchen.”

To help get you started, the expert kitchen retailers have provided the following pointers:

  1. Ask yourself what you really don’t like about your current kitchen.
  2. Flick through magazines, brochures and social networks such as Pinterest and Houzz. These are a great way to pick out some ideas you really love.
  3. If a family or friend has had a kitchen, chat with them for ideas.
